"A king must do what is right."
Varian Wrynn’s life is defined by tragedy and conflict. His father, King Llane, was assassinated by the orc Garona. His wife, Tiffin, died during a riot. After the Third War, he was kidnapped by the Defias Brotherhood and Onyxia (disguised as Lady Katrana Prestor), who stole his memories and enslaved him as a gladiator in Kalimdor. Known as “Lo’Gosh” or “Ghost Wolf,” Varian earned his freedom through battle. With the help of his allies, he recovered his identity and defeated Onyxia.
Under his leadership, the Alliance, led by Stormwind, marched on Northrend and defeated the Lich King. Known for his unwavering will and fierce spirit, King Varian vowed to protect the Alliance and prepare his son Anduin for succession. During the Cataclysm, he earned the respect of night elves, dwarves, and other Alliance races, ultimately becoming High King. He perished heroically on the Broken Shore fighting the Burning Legion, sacrificing himself so the Alliance could retreat. Before his death, he entrusted Genn Greymane with a letter to Anduin, urging him to be willing to fight for peace. After the war, Anduin took up his father’s mantle as King of Stormwind and High King of the Alliance.
As a ruler, Varian deeply loved his people and his son. He was driven by an ancient code that demanded great responsibility and sacrifice from leaders — values often misunderstood in modern times. He was a steadfast believer in truth, honor, justice, and duty.
