BANDAI SPIRITS' TAMASHII NATIONS collectibles division has announced a new release in its ROBOT SPIRITS line of fully articulated robot action figures.
Based on the anime "Mobile Police Patlabor," the Griffon (Twin Unit Set).
TYPE-J9 Griffon is an experimental combat Labor developed in utmost secrecy at Schaft Enterprises Japan's (SEJ) Tsuchiura Research Institute with the goal of creating the ultimate Labor. Its jet-black body and massive twin head crests give the machine an unmistakable silhouette. Developed without regard for cost, the Griffon incorporates cutting-edge technology that gives it superior power and mobility compared to standard machines such as the Ingram. Its backpack can also be swapped between the Flight Unit for short bursts of flight and the Aqua Unit for underwater operations. The proprietary high-efficiency ASURA operating system provides remarkably fluid, almost lifelike movement.
Based on the previously released standard version, the ROBOT SPIRITS Griffon (Twin Unit Set) returns with an all-new Aqua Unit sculpt. The main figure faithfully captures the sharp, commanding head design and sleek, rounded armor lines created by mechanical designer Yutaka Izubuchi. Sculpted folds around the enclosed joints recreate the flexible material covering them, while the armor features an almost mirror-like high-gloss finish. Internal mechanical details, including the hydraulic rods around the neck, receive metallic silver paint applications.
The set includes both the Flight Unit and Aqua Unit as interchangeable equipment. The Flight Unit's jet-black wings feature multi-axis articulation, with their bases capable of spreading nearly 90 degrees. The newly sculpted Aqua Unit recreates the intricate mechanical detailing and color applications of its twin underwater propulsion units. A dedicated display stand molded in translucent blue is also included. Rounding out the set is a damaged Ingram Unit 2 head part, allowing collectors to recreate the classic scene from the Harumi Incident in which the Griffon wrecked Unit 2.
