Who is Donatello?
Created in the comic books by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) became a phenomenal success in the 1980s, expanding into a multimedia franchise and gaining a legion of fans worldwide. Consisting of four young mutant turtles with humanoid traits, genetically altered by a viscous substance called Mutagen or Ooze, the brothers gained their father figure and master Sensei in the form of an anthropomorphic rat named Splinter, who named them after Italian Renaissance artists. Their home and base of operations in New York are in the sewer networks, where they remain hidden during the day and venture out for their missions at night. Their greatest archenemy is Shredder, the leader of the Foot Clan. Directed by Steve Barron, the 1990 independent film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles presents the origin story of Splinter and the Turtles, their initial meeting with reporter April O'Neil and vigilante Casey Jones, and their first confrontation with the villain Shredder and his Foot Clan criminal ninja group. Donatello, known as Don or Donnie to his brothers, is the scientist, inventor, engineer, and technological genius of the group. Donatello wears a purple mask and wields a Bo staff, and is probably the least violent of the group, preferring to use his knowledge to resolve conflicts but never hesitates to defend his brothers. His name is inspired by the Renaissance artist and sculptor from Florence, Donatello (Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi).
Exploring the Donatello statue:
With his purple bandana, a pair of brown elbow and knee pads, and carrying his Bo staff in front of his body, combined with his developed scientific intellect and years of ninjutsu training since childhood, he is a formidable fighter. With a sarcastic smile on his face, the young mutant warrior is the most perceptive and intelligent among his brothers, but he also knows how to be a good prankster depending on the circumstances. From the corridors of the sewers where his headquarters is located to the tops of the tallest skyscrapers in New York, he brings justice with his family, fighting threats from this world and others.
